Welcome to Open Range, I’m Susan Allen. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with the Open Range AgriBeef Minute. We used to plan meals according to the pyramid but that has now gone away. Registered and Licensed dietician Andrea Robertson says we are now working on a plate.

ROBERTSON: They have finally translated science into action and they realized that no one eats the pyramid. And so the My Plate is very user friendly and actually the website the government created is very user friendly as well. It’s a great visual because it shows you an actual plate.

That makes planning meals much easier.

ROBERTSON: It show what portion of each food group that should be on that plate. It’s a great tool to teach to children because you can print it out, you can put it onto a plate so they can copy it and say well my plate has this serving of vegetables and this serving of fruit and this serving of grains and this serving of protein and so they can get a balanced diet based on looking at a plate.

Part of a good diet is protein and beef is a great way to include that.

ROBERTSON: Lean protein especially is a great source of that protein that you need in your diet. Lean beef. Lean cuts that provide an excellent source of protein and an excellent source of vitamins and minerals that are so good for our bodies.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m Susan Allen.
