Washington Congresswoman holds briefing on ARS
Washington Ag Today May 10, 2011 U.S. Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers held a briefing last week to help educate other Congressional offices about the important work of USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, or ARS. Speakers at the briefing in Washington D. C. included Dr. Caird Rexroad, ARS associate administrator for operations; Dr. Kay Simmons, ARS deputy administrator for crop production and a long-time wheat researcher; Mike Miller, a member of the Washington Grain Commission; and Dana Herron, a past chairman of the Washington Grain Commission. In a news release Republican McMorris Rodger stated, “As we debate the budget and America’s future, we need to keep these facts in mind. It is the American farmer who has fed the world for over 100 years, kept our nation’s food prices low as a percentage of income, and done the most to combat poverty around the world and that is due in large part to scientific breakthroughs in agricultural research.” Now the Stockland Livestock Report from Davenport with Jack McQuinness. “Lower cow market. 750 head on our market. Most of the cows in 70-dollar money with the low grade cows in the 60s. Bulls topped at 98 cents. We will call that a couple of dollars lower as well. Cow-calf pairs fully steady. A lot of pairs on the market. A lot of green cattle and fully steady to strong market on all classes of feeders. Special feeder sale next week. We will have cow-calf pairs. We will sell all classes every week. Don’t forget the horse sale coming up on the 28th and we will not have a sale on the 30th. That is Stockland Livestock here in Davenport. Thanks for listening. Thanks Jack. I’m Bob Hoff and that’s Washington Ag Today on Northwest Aginfo Net.
