 There’s one thing that we can say for certain about Idaho and that is that it is sheep country. With our heritage of the Basque people, the wide open ranges and mountain pastures, sheep are a fixture in the Gem State. Well, The U.S. sheep and wool industry is coming off a great year and according to the Immediate Past President of the American Sheep Industry Burdell Johnson, the demand for lamb is growing. In fact – he says the U.S. is not producing enough to meet the demand and that’s something Johnson says the American Sheep Industry wants to address: “We’re trying to get young producers and new producers involved in the lamb industry. We’re also trying to work with existing producers to increase their size of flocks. We need more shep in the u.S, to meet the demand.”
