Monitoring the lock closure; Stockland report

Washington At Today February 8, 2010 The Pacific Northwest Waterways Association has been closely monitoring progress of the Columbia Snake River System’s extended lock closure. The 14-week planned closure began December 10th and includes gate replacements at The Dalles, John Day and Lower Monumental navigation locks. Routine maintenance of all eight system locks, which are maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is also occurring.

Glenn Vanselow, Executive Director of the Pacific Northwest Waterways Association, says they are pleased to report that there has been consistent good news from the Corps and as the half way point of the closure is approached the projects are well on their way to completion. Most locks will reopen by March 13th with The Dalles scheduled to reopen March 23rd, which will mean the entire Columbia Snake River System will again be open for navigation.

Now the report from Stockland Livestock.

“This is Jack McQuinness with Stockland Livestock here in Davenport. One thousand cattle on our market here this past week. Mostly feeder cattle in a very strong market. Some of these 750 pound steers high as $1.31. Most of the trade in the mid to high 20s on the 700-750 pound calves. Heifers trading eight cents back. All weights and sizes. Hand some of these five-weight calves as high as a $1.53. Cows and bulls fully steady. Top of 74 for the weigh up cows and not enough bulls for a real test. Have another special feeder sale in two weeks. We sell all classes of cattle every Monday. That’s Stockland Livestock in Davenport. Thanks for listening.

Thanks Jack.
