1-14 IAN No More Biomass

 The EPA must be run by wooden heads. They can’t get their story straight and if it doesn’t end they’re going to put us all in ruins. I’m DS and I’ll explain.

A month ago I did an interview with Governor Otter and one of the topics was renewable energy. It’s called green energy and the Governor was all stoked up about Idaho’s ability to produce energy through biomass…of which we have a lot of. Woody biomass energy is generated from a variety of wood - including manufacturing byproducts, small wood, limbs, sawdust and dead and decaying trees. Before the EPA’s Tailoring Rule was released - biomass energy was expected to make up 15-percent of the country’s renewable energy portfolio by 2021. Now - it’s likely that this won’t be realized - as the Tailoring Rule deters development and use of biomass in favor of traditional fossil fuels. What??? Some consulting company just released a study estimating the economic impact of the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Tailoring Rule - which will regulate greenhouse gas emitters from a variety of sources - including woody biomass production. Here’s Dr. Brooks Mendell, lead author of study on economic impact of Greenhouse Gas Tailoring Rule: The rules go into effect 2011 and includes the emissions from biomass energy which groups them along like fossil fuels like coal. The Tailoring Rule deters the development of renewable energy projects associated with woody biomass.”
