Anyone in the agricultural world who hasn’t been aware of the struggles endured by Idaho’s huge dairy industry had to be living in a cave or under a rock. It’s been awful. Recent mid-term elections that saw a strong Republican takeover may have an impact on the ag sector. I had a recent conversation with Executive Director of the Idaho Dairyman’s Association, Bob Naerbout, and asked if the struggle continues, particularly with feed prices going up: “Corn going to an all time high will hurt all livestock producers particularly when false signals tied to ethanol production are helping to drive that market up. There’s a real concern about the government’s intrusion into ag. We think if government’s going to get out of the way it has to for all of agriculture.
