An environmental lawsuit goes in the backdoor and tries to hit Western Watersheds mother lode. I’m David Sparks. I’ll get back in a minute. Three environmental organizations joined together to file a new legal challenge in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals over El Paso Corp.’s Ruby Pipeline.

Defenders of Wildlife, the Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club and Great Basin Resource Watch are suing the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over their approval of the rights of way for the 680-mile natural gas pipeline. Great Basin Resource Watch Executive Director John Hadder said “We just didn’t see any alternative. We’re not opposed to a pipeline in general but the route they’ve chosen goes into undeveloped areas with sensitive habitat and about 800 cultural sites”.

Is that the ultimate irony. John Marvel and his Western Watersheds Project sues everybody over environmental issues, but takes a payout of millions of dollars not to sue from the El Paso Corporation who’s putting in the pipeline. I called El Paso’s spokesperson Richard Wheatley:
