Multi-Peril Now for Plums and Prunes

Multi-Peril Now for Plums and Prunes. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Yesterday we talked with Jo Lynne Seufer from the Risk Management Agency in Spokane's Regional Office about a recent change in the Multi-Peril Crop Insurance for the 2011 crop year. SEUFER: The only option they've had to protect their crop is to essentially participate in our sister agency, USDA Farm Service Agencies Non-Insured Assistance Program, the NAP Program. Now producers can actually buy coverage to better fit their farms or their orchards needs. And that means additional coverage. Under the NAP program it was only 50% coverage and then only for catastrophic loss. SEUFER: We do not deliver our crop insurance program; they are delivered through a private crop insurance agent. If anyone has any questions about locating an agent they can go to our website, www.rma.usda.gov or they can call me toll free, as long as they're in Idaho, Oregon, Alaska or Washington, at 1-800-205-9953. The closing date has been extended to November 22 and is for Apple, Blueberry, ARH Cherry Pilot, Cranberry, Grape, and Pear crop insurance, including each of the Stonefruit crops, Apricots, Nectarines, Freestone Peaches and Plums/Prunes. Apple MPCI and Actual Revenue History (ARH) Cherry Pilot Provisions were also modified for the 2011 crop year. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
