Crop Insurance Policy Changes

Crop Insurance Policy Changes. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Risk Management Agency Spokane Regional Office announces changes to the Apple, Cherry and Stonefruit Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Multi-Peril Crop Insurance provisions for the 2011 crop year. RMA's Jo Lynne Seufer. SEUFER: California has had plum and prune insurance for many, many years and here in the Pacific Northwest our producers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington were never able to obtain that insurance. And finally we worked as an office and got that expansion approved through the channels of the Crop Insurance Act. Fresh plum/prune MPCI insurance is now available in a number of counties in the Tri State area. SEUFER: What's even a better instance for this extension taking place is not only does this make the crop insurance available for these producers in these counties but for producers outside this county they can now get a written agreement so essentially everyone in the Pacific Northwest will be able to get fresh plum or prune crop insurance. The sign up date is coming up but Seufer says there is a bit of a change this year. SEUFER: It is usually November 20 but because it falls on a Saturday it's always extended to the following Monday which is November 22. So any and all perennial crop growers have until November 22 to meet with a private crop insurance agent to get their Multi-Peril Crop Insurance coverage. That's today's Fruit Grower Report.
