A Win for Kids and Communities

Across California, county fairs are about more than blue ribbons. They’re about hard work, hope, and community.

For young 4-H and FFA members, raising livestock takes months of care and commitment. But not every animal finds a buyer in the auction ring.

That’s where neighbors step in.

Highlighted by the California Farm Bureau, groups like the 37th District Buyer’s Coalition are making sure no exhibitor is left behind. Since 2022, they’ve purchased animals from hundreds of local youth and donated more than 80,000 pounds of meat to families in need.

Many of the young exhibitors later send heartfelt thank-you letters to the coalition.

As one organizer shared, “Some of these letters bring tears to your eyes.”

And the impact goes even further. “They feel fortunate to be on the receiving end as the seller, and they’re thrilled to know that their product is able to help the community as well.”

It’s a powerful reminder that agriculture connects us all.
