2026 Hurricane Outlook: Encouraging, Not Carefree
As we head into the 2026 hurricane season, there’s some encouraging news to share with producers across the Southeast.According to the Florida Farm Bureau, citing the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service, this year’s Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be “below-normal.” The season officially runs from June through November, with peak activity later in the summer.
Still, the Farm Bureau reminds us that preparation is just part of doing business in agriculture, no matter the forecast.
They’re also pointing to updates from the National Hurricane Center, including an improved cone graphic that now shows inland watches and warnings, along with a more mobile-friendly hurricanes.gov website to help you stay informed wherever you are.
Now’s a good time to check supplies, fuel, and feed, review important documents, and make sure your operation has a plan in place.
And if a storm does move through, don’t forget to document any damage before cleanup begins.
