9-13 IAN Otter Tax Relief

Tax revenues are looking flat. Is there any tax relief legislation possible for 2011?

In a recent conversation that I had with Governor Otter, I asked him to look forward and project whether he thought private citizens and businesses such as agriculture could look forward to any tax relief. Here’s his answer.

“As this economy comes up, the tax revenues will increase. It is my hope, as we expand the economy, from the $52 billion that we had in the past and as we go forward to $60 billion, I feel comfortable and we can expand ourselves into opportunities to reduce income taxes, corporate taxes, personal property taxes, and maybe even sales taxes, if we collect $2.4 billion on a $52 billion economy, we should collect over $3 billion with the same tax rate, we’re not gonna let government grow at the same rate the economy grows so there should be some room for some tax relief.”
