9-8 IAN Milk Spills

9-8 IAN Milk Spills

Just what dairymen need. Is the EPA putting milk in the same category as the oil spill in the Gulf? You’re gonna want to hear this one. I’m David Sparks and I’ll be right back with a story that will make you scratch you’re head. Milk contains a percentage of animal fat – albeit it is a non-petroleum oil. Nonetheless, as a result - the EPA is classifying milk as oil - and that’s raising some eyebrows. The classification means dairy farmers would be required to develop and implement spill prevention plans for milk storage tanks. That is exactly what dairy farmers in their present situation need to be doing…spending huge amounts of time, energy and money on preventing milk spills because it could be an ecological disaster. Here’s Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind: “In their zeal to guard against any future oil spills, we ought not to be casting a net too far including dairy producers into something that doesn’t make any sense and shouldn’t apply to them. So I sent a letter to EPA telling them to back off. The storage of butterfat milk should not be subject to new regulations that are used for oil producing facilities.” Are you telling me that we’re concerned with milk spills while the catastrophic devastation in the Gulf of Mexico exists. Who’s running this asylum. Certainly not the inmates…they’re not that delusional.
