Calgary Stampede
Matt Shiozawa of Chubbuck recently won the final round of the Calgary Stampede and took away $100,000 in prize money.
Shiozawa beat out Fred Whitfield in a rope-off after posting 7.4-second runs. In the rope-off, Shiozawa tied his calf in 6.5 seconds while Whitfield posted 8.5 seconds. “It all came down to the final 4 and there was a tie, me and a guy named Fred Whitfield. It went down to a rope-off so it was just the two of us. I got to go first, didn’t know anything about the calf and it was just minutes after I had run the final 4. Got to compete first and pretty much made the perfect run. The type of run I’ve made in my mind thousands of times in that situation and it was amazing emotion and the excitement and of course there’s a huge crowd, I don’t know what the attendance was but thousands of people in attendance as well as media. Would the Calgary Stampede be the equivalent of the Super Bowl in terms of rodeos? Yes it is. Calgary’s one notch below winning a world championship so you can imagine my excitement.”
Matt’s going to use the prize money to buy land.
