Winery Sustainability Grant

Winery Sustainability Grant

Winery Sustainability Grant. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. The Washington Wine Industry Foundation was awarded $128,250 from the Washington State Department of Agriculture's Specialty Crop Block Grant program to build a Guide to Sustainable Winery Practices. ANDERSEN: I think this is like the third year we've applied, trying to get a specialty crop grant for this project we have for "Winery Wise." Most of the work to this point on the Winery Wise project has all been just grass roots efforts from a lot of different folks from several different wineries. That's Joy Andersen, Snoqualmie winemaker and Chair of the Winery Wise Steering Committee. ANDERSEN: A lot of work has been done already, a lot of dedicated people putting a lot of time and effort so we're pretty happy to have the grant so we can bring this thing online and to fruition and really put it in the hands of wineries and make it available to them. Winery Wise is an offshoot of the successful Vinewise program. ANDERSEN: Vinewise is the sustainable guide to Washington State vineyards and I think the first beginnings of that was in 2003 or 2004. Many of us said, gee we really need something for the winery side; a companion to this and that's when the Winery Wise inception got going but unfortunately no more grant money left. Tomorrow we discuss this in more detail. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
