U.S. Grains Council celebrating 50 years
Farm and Ranch July 19, 2010 The U.S. Grains Council is gathered in Boston this week for its 50th Annual Board of Delegates meeting. The theme of the meeting is “50 Years of Leadership: Acting on Opportunity.” Terry Vinduska, Grains Council Vice Chairman, says it is time to celebrate. Vinduska: “It is a chance for us to get together and celebrate 50 years of activity. Fifty years of developing markets overseas. Fifty years of enabling trade. Fifty years of working together to increase the price of U.S. corn, grain sorghum, barley, to provide feed and food for the world.” The Grains Council is expecting more than 300 people will attend the meeting making it the largest Council meeting in its 50 year history. Vinduska says there is a powerful line-up of speakers, including USDA Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Ag Services Jim Miller, former Secretary of Agriculture Clayton Yeutter and Columbian Ambassador to the United States Carolina Barco. The non-ratified U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement will be one of the topics at the meeting. Vinduska: “It is very frustrating when we see millions of millions of dollars of opportunity going to waste because our government refuses to ratify that free trade agreement with Colombia.” Vinduska says he is looking forward to serving as Grains Council chairman. The Idaho Barley Commission and the Washington Grain Commission are members of the U.S. Grains Council. I’m Bob Hoff and that’s the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report on Northwest Aginfo Net. ? ?
