Email Questions

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Today we are answering a question from the email. Recently a listener wrote to ask, "What would you say to someone who thinks of himself as a wine expert and is always putting down Rose' wines that we happen to like and drink?" What to say to a rude wine expert, a great question, I only wish that I had a polite answer. To me wine is a beverage it is a wonderful indulgence. Or, as Jancis Robinson says "it is one of life's perks". Anyone who would suggest that wine is only for the elite, or profoundly knowledgeable, is quite mistaken. Recognize that and put yourself at ease. You will find that inevitably those who claim to be wine experts have little to offer other than their own prejudice. If that guy truly loved wine he would relish in the fact that you are enjoying wine and discovering wines for yourself. I believe most every wine has its own virtues and there is a time and place for good Rose' and summer is to me is perfect. Now if your friend is considering all Rose' to be those which are no more than "Adult Kool-Aid" then I am sorry for him. The serious delicate dry Rose' we are thinking of is highly sophisticated and genuinely delightful with barbecue, grilled fish pork and chicken. The guy obviously is not as expert as he would like you to believe. Just let it go - anyone who would speak to you in a condescending manner, about your wine selection, just doesn't get it. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
