Misunderstanding & Solar Power Plant

Misunderstanding & Solar Power Plant plus Food Forethought. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. The Agriculture Secretary says there is a misunderstanding by some on the intent of USDA's Know Your Farmer--Know Your Food campaign. He says he understands that some production ag folks feel that the program may take the focus away from their importance. VILSACK: Yes, it's about farmer's markets and community supported agriculture but it ought not be and should not be and will not be at the expense of production agriculture, it's about all of agriculture. It isn't about one particular type of agriculture; it's about all of agriculture. A big announcement was made during the 2010 State of the City Address in Boise Wednesday. Mayor Dave Bieter announced a $45 million solar power plant will be built near the Boise Airport. The power produced at the solar energy plant will be sold locally under a new standard power purchase agreement. The 10 megawatt facility will create 20 construction jobs, as well as retain 20 manufacturing jobs. Right now, the city is negotiating a lease with Sunergy World to build the facility. The solar power plant will be built on city-owned property west of the airport. Now with today's Food Forethought, here's Lacy Gray. In case you weren't aware June is National Dairy Month. As far as I am concerned, every month should be considered Dairy Month! I truly love all things dairy; cheese, milk, yogurt, ice cream, the list could go on and on. I don't recall ever meeting anyone who didn't like some form of dairy. Cheese would have to be at the top of my list though, and because dairy is high in protein, good for teeth and bones, and contains a multitude of vitamins and minerals it is so "not" a guilty pleasure! And now that scientists have discovered that dairy aids in athletic performance and muscle recovery it just doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on expensive sports drinks when milk is affordable and handy. Greek athletes knew about the importance of dairy more than five thousand years ago, so encouraging children, teenagers, and persons of all ages to enjoy milk, cheese and yogurt as a nutritional snack and pick me up should be a "no brainer". So to all dairy farmers around the world, my family thanks you, and we raise a glass of milk, lift a piece of cheese and celebrate all things dairy in your honor. Thanks Lacy. That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
