Potatoes on You Tube

Remember Gilligans Island. There was a very attractive character on the show, and it wasn’t the bumbling, dimwitted, accident-prone Bob Denver…it was Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann. Well she’s made a comeback with a potato in her hand. I’ll tell you about it in a minute. According to an on-line ag publication called The Packer, a video of “Gilligan’s Island’s” Mary Ann peeling an Idaho potato is among YouTube’s most popular videos, crossing the 10 million viewer mark recently. The video, featuring actress and Idaho Potato Commission celebrity spokeswoman Dawn Wells demonstrating a peeler-less potato peeling technique, has been viewed more than 10.1 million times, according to a commission news release. Here’s the guy who helped orchestrate the whole affair…Frank Muir, Executive Director of the Idaho Potato Commission: “The purpose for this was to give an opportunity for young people to see something new and a way to pass on a new way to peel potatoes that they could send on to their mothers and grandmothers to say you don’t need to peel a potato to make it delicious.” Frank says he’s been working with Mary Ann errh Dawn for about 6 years. Tough duty.
