Western States Fight For Right to Bear Arms

Remember the run on ammunition right after President Obama took office? Thank goodness our worst fears weren’t realized but gun right advocates don’t believe we are out of the woods yet thus have moved aggressively at the state level to insure our right to bear arms. I’m Susan Allen, back with Open Range. Despite the fact FBI statistics show that the violent crime rate has dropped to it’s lowest levels since the 1960’s and the president has not acted on his campaign promise to ban assault weapons and restrict firearms sales, Western states,  notably Arizona ,Wyoming and Montana are taking proactive measures to maintain the rights of their citizens to bear arms. Montana just passed the first measure of it’s kind to exempt their state from federal regulation of firearms and ammunition made, sold and used  in their state.  That’s one to watch as it is being challenged in federal court. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives wants federal law to overturn Montana’s state rights.  Arizona and Wyoming are having  pro-gun legislation on the docket. The one that has gun control advocates up in arms would allow residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit. In an odd turn of political ping pong the president in a negotiating effort to win on larger  bills conceded to allow guns in national parks and on Amtrak trains. Liberal anti gun groups are livid feeling Obama hasn’t  delivered on his campaign promises. Welcome to our world. I’m Susan Allen
