Dieting & Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. I am right there with you. The first part of the year and things are going well, I have lost seven pounds – just like last year. I didn't keep it off, and I am not going to give up wine, so this year I asked myself HOW will I do it? For the past month or more we have been all about lightening up. I am on a campaign to lighten up. Not to loose an unrealistic amount of weight, just to be normal and not feel overweight or uncomfortable. Of course I think that how we cook, and what wine we choose to go with it, can make all the difference. Grilling is always an option, so grilled foods are of course my food of choice. I mean you can grill just about anything, and that charred flavor will help it to go with red wine. If you just can't bring yourself to step out into the cold, then use the oven's broiler. Take a few thick slices of those great winter squashes, apples and pears that have been looking so good in the grocery store and spray them with olive oil - lay them on your grill for a few minutes on each side. Toss a chicken breast on for protein and you have a light and simple meal that will go very well with a nice glass of red wine from the Southern Rhone of France or a domestic Grenache or Syrah. The most important thing is to remember - moderation is the point! After the long season of celebrating we all want to lighten up and still enjoy our food and wine. I am just limiting myself to one glass of wine with dinner and I still eat and drink very well – and I lost seven pounds! And thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
