The Morning Coffee Ritual

The Morning Coffee Ritual

Well, you know you’re getting too dependent on your morning “caffeine jump start” when you’re ready to call in sick to work because the coffee maker’s little red “heart light” has gone out. That was the situation at my house this past week. We have a routine every morning that starts with my husband, bless his little heart, getting the morning paper and making sure the coffee is well on its way to percolated perfection. This particular morning he was met with no little red light, no wonderful smell of fresh brewed coffee wafting up the stairs and one wife ready to cancel the day because of it! Now I know that sounds a little extreme, but I also know I’m not the only one who feels that way. Our son did some pretty major grumbling about it as he stumbled through the kitchen. Thanks to some fast thinking on his part and some kitchen cupboard rearranging my hubby was able to find the old enamel stove top percolator that we acquired several years back and pretty soon it was bubbling away on the stove; peace was restored, the day was saved. In fact, the coffee tastes pretty good done on the stove top, we just might skip getting a replacement for that fancy schmancy coffee maker.  Nah, the company said the new one should be here in six weeks, and I’m counting down the days.
