Dairy in 2010

Dairy in 2010

Dairy…what can we say about 2010? Idaho’s the third largest daiy producing state…will things improve?  Quoting from an article in the Idaho Statesman, who in turn was quoting " Bob Naerebout, Executive Director of the Idaho Dairyman’s Association,  2009 "is probably one of the worst years on record as far as the amount of equity dairymen have gone through to get through the year  He said that in order to break even, dairy producers need to make about $16 per hundredweight and prices are currently just below $14. Last month it was below $10 so it's certainly an improvement. Is there any way to put a good spin on the dairymen’s story. Here’s Bob: “Yeah Dave, definitely there’s improvement occurring the last 3 months and into 2010 there’s improvement, whether or not it will be anywhere near what producers need to make up for what they’ve lost the last year, currently the future’s market doesn’t show it’s gonna be that but we are obtaining break even points which is important.”

Nothing to say here other than let’s pray for a better 2010.
