Widening Rural Roads

Widening Rural Roads

Ag producers…if the road you drive your equipment on is too narrow, now’s the time to do something about it. Don't miss your chance to give your opinion about transportation projects scheduled to start in the next four years. The Idaho Transportation Department has opened a one-month comment period on a draft of its fiscal year 2010-13 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.

Farm Safety has been a big thing, so I talked with June Sparks of the Idaho Transportation Department: “There’s a great concern in rural communities about the safety of both drivers and farmers who move large equipment on rural roads that may be very narrow. If a rural community had concerns about widening a road, is it possible to approach the Idaho Department of Transportation? (June) “Getting feedback from the public is very important to the Idaho Department of Transportation and at this time of year we have what’s called the open public comment period. For one month we allow the public to make comments on our statewide transportation improvement program. All they have to do is go onto our website at itd.idaho.gov and hit the projects button and then go into the statewide transportation improvement program, the STIP, on that page they’ll see something that says contact us and please do not hesitate to make your comments right here.”
