Getting Ready for Hort

Getting Ready for Hort. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

BJ Thurlby has a busy schedule this next week and most of it involves presentations at meetings including the Washington State Horticultural Association's 105th Annual Meeting this next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Wenatchee.

THURLBY: So I’m doing 3 different talks up at the Hort show and I’m excited to certainly share information with the growers. Obviously with the cherry season we just had it’s kind of a post mortem to say the most about the year but still there’s good things that came out of this season.

The Annual Hort Convention and NW Hort Expo is a great place to gather some great information and insight on the coming years crops.

THURLBY: So I’m going to be talking a little bit about the challenges we had and some of the, I think opportunities moving forward which I think it’s really important after a year like this that people just continue to focus on the fact that we’ve got a great product and there’s opportunities moving forward.

Another of Thurlby’s topics is really something that all cherry growers should keep in mind.

THURLBY: I’m also doing a talk relative to - kind of who the cherry consumer is in the United States is and we’ve seen that demographic change a little bit and this year where we really had more cherries than we’ve ever had to offer before we’ve seen kind of a broader group of American’s eating cherries and we think that’s good because some of those people probably have never eaten cherries.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
