Information Technology for a New Market

Information Technology for a New Market

Information Technology for a New Market. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

I’m a big fan of technology. Pam Mitchell with SureHarvest  will be presenting on that topic at this year’s Annual Hort Association's Convention and NW Hort Expo. Technology can be a very useful thing in today’s farming operations.

MITCHELL: Essentially what I want to talk to these folks about is as growers what information technology what’s the value proposition with having information about what’s going on in the field. The point is they have a lot of information now and it’s on notebook pads and sticky note in their trucks and the question is, to the degree that that is valuable, to the degree that that’s an asset, how do they optimize that asset?

Old technology while very secure is difficult to manipulate and can sometimes even become a nightmare if there is a significant amount of it…like the stacks of paper on my desk.

MITCHELL: If they recognize the value of information and managing decisions in the field and understanding what’s going on where and how their current practices affect the outcome. Many of the people are already using Excel spreadsheets but the question becomes is there a better tool out there and how do they go about finding it.

Mitchell is the CEO of SureHarvest who provides a full set of solutions for growers and agrifood companies pursuing sustainability strategies.
