Planning on Attending the Hort Convention

Planning on Attending the Hort Convention. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Every year at this time fruit growers from across the northwest make plans to attend the Annual Hort Association's Convention and NW Hort Expo. This year it will be in Wenatchee. This is a great place to get the latest information on the industry from some of the key players like JimMcFerson with the WA Tree Fruit Research Commission.

MCFERSON: I’m going to be chairing a session, it’s on Tuesday afternoon, it’s called “Tree Fruit Technologies: Tools & Return On Investment.” It’s really a range of tools that we’ve been developing via our Technology Roadmap over the past few years.

McFerson says that these tools include a number of things.

MCFERSON: Genetics, crop protection, hardware – engineering solutions and economic analysis tools in each one of those areas.

As anyone who has attended one of the Hort’s meetings these panels will approach the broad title from many different perspectives.

MCFERSON: There’s a lot of exciting stuff and the challenge is to try to integrate it because we’re not focusing on – well let’s say – guthion and spray towers and mechanical harvest. It’s really attempting to open everyone’s eyes and look at the systems we’re putting together for the modern orchard.

The 105th Annual Meeting of the Washington State Horticultural Association (WSHA) will be held this December 7, 8, and 9 at the Wenatchee Convention Center in Wenatchee. Visit the Hort website at www.wahort.org.
