 Onion growers in Eastern Oregon and Idaho are hoping to form a marketing cooperative with the notion that such a partnership will help to stabilize prices and raise profits. Giant Produce owner Brent Ishida, a member of the organizing committee, says plans have been in the works since March and that the coop will focus on marketing and production and leave issues such as regulations to other grower groups. “It’s called United Onions USA and what we’re trying to accomplish is a cooperative that will allow us to compile our information in one spot and it will help us as growers to get better marketing information so we can make better marketing decisions, anywhere from current pricing to trends.”
