Charged Rhetoric over Wolves

Charged Rhetoric over Wolves

The following excerpt from an environmentalist group called “From Green Right Now Reports” says, and I quote: "At least three of Idaho’s wolves have been killed as hunting commenced this week under the first authorized sport wolf hunt in the lower 48 states."

But while the hunt has attracted sportspeople, it has repelled others. A Lewiston-area man who killed the first wolf on opening day told the local media that he has received numerous calls of protest.Idaho’s wolf season which began on September First, put up to 220 (the maximum allowed kill) of the state’s estimated 1,000 wolves in jeopardy.

The Rocky Mountain Wolf population was restored in the US in the mid-1990s with the introduction of gray wolves from Canada to try to replace US wolves, which were annihilated over decades of hunting and defensive shooting by ranchers.

Everybody has a right to their opinion. But the highly charged rhetoric just doesn’t seem to be supported by the facts. There doesn’t appear to be an annihilation going on as evidenced by Fish and Game spokesperson Ed Mitchell: “So far it doesn’t appear that many Idahoans are interested in going up and beating the woods to find a wolf.”
