Trail Ride with Governor Otter
We hear so much about social networking on computers these days but as the ad says, the original social networking was done around a campfire. Every year, Idaho’s Governor goes on a 3-day trail ride with government officials to work out problems. Here’s Mr. Otter with this year’s agenda. Well I started the trail ride when I was in congress. And I have had six of them when I was in Congress. This will be my third one as Governor of Idaho. And the idea was of course to get the resource people that are involved in managing, primarily the BLM, the Forest Service, and US Fish and Wildlife, those kind of folks, and the state agencies that are involved in managing those kinds of natural resources, in cooperation with the cattlemen, environmental groups. We invite everybody to go on the ride and then we study issues. And this year we will be taking a look at the fire we have two years ago, 700,000 acres that was burnt up, as you will recall. And we have done a tremendous job I think in rehabbing that with our Fish and Game and our Department of Lands in cooperation with the BLM and other folks. And primarily take a look at what we have to do to maintain the habitat for bull trout, slick-spot-peppergrass, the sage grouse and other threatened or endangered species to see cooperatively what we can do. We have been very successful with these.”
