Sales for the Livestock Risk Protection Program for the 2010 crop year begin tomorrow, July 1st and continue through June 30th of 2010. Joe Lynne Seufer with the regional office of the Risk Management Agency, says LRP insurance includes Fed Cattle, Feeder Cattle and Swine and is available in all counties in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Seufer: “And what Livestock Risk Protection does, it covers the policy holder with protection from a downward price risk during the insurance period. Again that insurance period is the period the individual producer selects. It does not have to be the whole 52 weeks of the crop year. It does not cover however, any peril other than price. So it doesn‘t include mortality, physical damage to the livestock, disease, individual marketing decisions.”

Nor does it cover local price deviations.
