FSA has new ACRE on-line calculator

FSA has new ACRE on-line calculator

Washington Ag Today June 10, 2009 USDA’s Farm Service Agency says it has a new calculator available on-line that will help producers determine if the new Average Crop Revenue Election Program, ACRE, is a good fit for their operation.

There are a lot of ACRE calculators available. Amy Paulson with the Washington State FSA office explains what makes this one different.

Paulson: “We have a new calculator that is actually endorsed bys the Farm Service Agency. It will include all of the preliminary prices for each crop as well as the calculated ACRE guarantees.”

Paulson says other ACRE calculators may be just as thorough as FSA’s.

Paulson: “But information, we can guarantee this that it is accurate. I haven‘t checked all the others.”

Growers can find the ACRE calculator by visiting the FSA website at

www.fsa.usda.gov

Sign up for the revenue-based guarantee program is underway and runs to August 14th. Paulson sums up what FSA has been seeing in Washington state.

Paulson: “We have heard really mixed reactions. There are some people out there who are really excited about the new program. I think a lot of folks are a little apprehensive about it because it is new and there are a lot of unknowns. But there has been some interest out there.”

ACRE is an alternative to the traditional price-stabilizing Direct and Counter-cyclical Program.
