BV Cab

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. Today I want to share not only a wine I enjoyed but a wine I fell in love with ...

I invited guests over to taste wine with me. While I was selecting the wines, I came across a bottle given to me by a friend in the wine business. He made me promise to open it in seven years. He felt it would be showing well by then. So I realized it was time. The wines we tasted were all nice, but this one was exceptional. It wasn’t just me,  as I look around I watched each person lift the glass, smell it, taste it, and appear as though they were having an ahhhh moment. Truly, it was sublime in its balance and the level of finesse was over the moon. Nothing was out of place, the stage of fruit supported the tannins, which had smoothed and integrated perfectly, and the acidity seemed as though it had been so judiciously incorporated within the wine that you could not determine where one element began or ended. To say it was smooth would be a gross under statement. It was a masterpiece. Crazy thing, it was the least expensive wine on the table and also the winery that has been around the longest, so it is often overlooked. The wine was a 2000 vintage of Beaulieu Vineyard - or BV as most of us call it – just the regular Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. No more pedigree than that. It made me wonder what the reserves were like that year. Oh my, just the thought … If you own it or ever find a bottle, I hope you enjoy it every bit as much as we did.  Remember, send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
