Wine & Women

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. I read some statistics about women and their wine drinking habits and today I want to share the results of this survey with you and I’m just wondering … ladies does this resemble you?

So – the survey about women’s drinking habits is the result of 700 women answering the inquiry. 97% of them stated they enjoyed drinking wine. I like it so far. And 52% said that wine was their beverage of choice when drinking alcohol. Within that group 47% choose red wine 38% choose white wines 8% preferred blush and only 7% selected sparkling wines. I am so in the minority. Now here is something that I really found interesting – 76% of them agreed that the image of a woman holding a glass of wine was both sophisticated and sexy. WOW! So then of course the survey asked about consumption and 96% admitted to drinking up to 4 glasses per sitting. 51% of them pop the cork 2 nights a week and 14% admit to popping the cork 3 or more nights per week. While 77% of them are the wine purchaser of the household 54% of the group will purchase a wine based on a recommendation and the majority of them averaged spending 11 – 15 dollars a bottle and only 6% ever spend over $25 a bottle for wine. Oh well I guess the only conclusion to draw is that women think they look sophisticated and sexy while holding a cheap glass of red wine that has been recommended to them by a friend that they bought themselves to drink at home. They will most likely down four glasses and they’ll do it again two or three more nights that week. So ladies where do you fit in? I just found out I’m not your average lady wine drinker. But I will persevere, thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
