There are radical organizations using fear as their communication strategy that should be feared by some unsuspecting Americans. I’m Jeff Keane; I’ll be back in one minute to tell you about these groups.Radical vegans are using fear or any means necessary to convince everyone their diet is the only diet. While choosing to be a vegan used to be a matter of individual choice – it has now become a near-religious social movement. Steve McDonald, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine writing for Western Farmer-Stockman magazine warns animal agriculturalists of the serious intentions of organizations promoting vegetarianism. Groups such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) paint animal agriculture as basically evil. They tell an uninformed American public that most food is produced on “factory farms.” The Farm Bureau says something like 90 percent of all farms are individual or family owned. Vegetarian alarmists speak against feeding or giving animals antibiotics or growth hormones. They then present the scary scenario this practice will lead to antibiotic resistant human diseases. Research doesn’t support these statements, but vegan organizations deal in promoting fear not facts. And promote they can with annual budgets of $120 million for HSUS and $23 million for PETA. These funds buy lobbyists to influence legislators and lawyers to litigate anything that will pressure animal agriculture through financial damages. Tomorrow, some more of Dr. McDonald’s thoughts and a few of mine. I’m Jeff Keane.
