What tom Plant?
A recent notice from the National Agricultural Statistics Services branch in Boise asked questions such as How will the uncertain economy affect Idaho farmer’s planting intentions this spring? And… Will the increasing demand for bio-fuels continue to impact crop acreage?
They further announced that such questions will be answered by their March Agricultural Survey. The next question is…What is this survey? Bill Meyer is the communication expert for NASS and his description is…
(Meyer) “This is the first look at what producer intentions are for the upcoming crop year so we’ll send out a survey the beginning of March and ask what they plan to plant for the upcoming year. Things could change by June when planting comes around due to the season or conditions but it at least gives us a heads up about what people are thinking at this time.”
Bill said the results come out March 31st which presumably give producers time to either enact their plan for the 2009 growing season or make modifications based on the data reported by other farmers. Beginning the end of February, NASS will contact selected producers by mail or telephone and ask them to provide information about the types and acres of crops that they intend to plant for the 2009 crop year.
