Ag Safety Day

Ag Safety Day

Ag Safety Day. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Working on a farm can provide a real sense of fulfillment. But it is also a very dangerous environment. Susan Troy is the Conference Manager for the 2009 Ag Safety Day.

TROY: What we do as the Department of Labor and Industries and the Governors Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board is put on these safety and health outreach events to educate people on the resources in the state.

Some of the topics covered will include tractor and ladder safety, injury prevention, cross-cultural communication, conducting an accident investigation, and handling HR issues.

TROY: Orchards, wineries, vineyards, even the processing plants, cold storage, Stemilt, those kinds of plants. Most people that attend leave with very good feedback about this conference. They get really good information for a very low registration rate.

Registration is $50 in advance and $60 day of the conference. It includes all sessions, breakfast and lunch. Ag Safety Day will be held at the Yakima Convention Center. Troy says they have support from the top levels of state government.

TROY: We will have the Director of L&I and the Governor’s advisory board members there to greet and welcome folks and Governor Gregoire will be providing a written welcome address to the attendees.

You can register online at www.wagovconf.org.
