Throughout the Northwest the weather can be pretty iffy this time of year, often down right dangerous. Passes close, roads flood so what do you do if you your horse needs emergency medical care? I'm Jeff Keane stay tuned I'll be right back on today's edition of the American Rancher. So your horse colics or is seriously injured and the winter roads conditions are treacherous, what are your options? Susan Allen might just have the answer. Jeff, for over 30 years the WSU equine veterinary school has offered a transport service, basically a horse ambulance for it's clients. This has been especially beneficial for the racing industry with Emerald downs located in Western Washington separated by dangerous mountain passes owners have had the ability to transport their animals safely to the WSU's hospital in Pullman. The six horse van runs year round on an every other week schedule, and given pass closures or severe weather they have hold over arrangements for boarding. There are two, Westside pick up points in Auburn, and Eastside in Ellensburg. The shipping cost is three hundred and fifteen dollars each way. Susan, the colleges equine transport has saved a lot of horses over the years, and it is a service I'll bet many of our listeners aren't even aware of.
