Tree Fruit Day. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
It is that time again. Time to visit with your local legislators.
SMITH: Tree fruit day is an event we do every year and it has been going on now for 7 years so this February will mark our 7th anniversary and it's an opportunity where industry members and the tree fruit industry get to be face to face with legislators in Olympia and we have the opportunity to highlight the value of the tree fruit industry. We also have a few key talking points that we will discuss while were in Olympia.
That is Lynette Smith with the Washington Horticulture Association. Those talking points are key issues that need addressed.
SMITH: It's absolutely crucial for the legislators to understand and hear our issues that we have and things that we are addressing or things that we are dealing with and where we might need help.
If you are a member of the tree fruit industry and would like to take part in this years Tree Fruit Day you should contact the Hort office in Wenatchee.
SMITH: We sit down with 40-45 different legislators while we are in Olympia and we have about 6 groups that go with us and they'll sit down for about 15 minutes and address those 3 talking points and stick to the issues we are trying to communicate while we are there.
Each legislator also receives a nice care package from the tree fruit industry that highlights many of products produced in the state. For more information go to wahort.org. Tree Fruit Day is February 3rd.
