Wine Fete Part 2. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
Each year the Walla Walla Wine industry holds a holiday barrel tasting. This year's event is slated for Thursday, Dec. 4 through Sunday, Dec. 7 with a special Winemaker's Fete.
MARTIN-CALDER: It's a great event. All the proceeds there are to benefit the Carnegie Art Center which is a local art community and we put the funds towards maintaining art education in our schools. We try and see it as giving back to the community. The word fete, that actually is something that evolved over in Europe and it was about a community coming together in support of a cause.
That's Executive Director Elizabeth Martin-Calder. She also says that the entire barrel tasting event is a chance for charities to benefit.
MARTIN-CALDER: Holiday Barrel Tasting itself has long held within it's tradition of the wineries have always earmarked that particular event that whether it's their tasting fees or proceeds from the day go back to a charity in our community of their choice.
The Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance has a very unique tool on their website that can help you with your wine travel plans.
MARTIN-CALDER: It's a search where you check off those wines that you are interested in tasting and then of course there are some other variables. You can decide that you want to be someplace that's in a historic building or maybe you are looking for picnic grounds and then it will give you the definitive of that search.
