11/20/08 Protecting Your Crops

Protecting Your Crops. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. It has been a good year for apple growers in the northwest and Dan Sherrod, Product Development Manager for DuPont Crop Protection says that they hope they helped. SHERROD: Hopefully we contributed to that success in a good year with our new product Altacor which is a new mode of action insecticide highly effective on some key pests like codling moth and oblique banded leafroller. But it actually represents the best of both worlds in the sense that it's highly effective on those pests but has a very benign profile on most all the predators, parasites and pollinators. It appeared that this might be a bad year for codling moth. SHERROD: We had excellent results this year with Altacor for controlling codling moth. This was our launch year and one of the added benefits is the attributes of a new mode of action that has come in now to the tree fruit rotation of insecticides. Sherrod says that Altacor has other uses. SHERROD: We also are labeled for use on grapes for omnivorous leafroller particularly and some of the other like Western grape leaf skeletonizer, have very good control of those and again a very benign profile on your beneficials. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
