09/05/08 PakSense Ultra T3

It's called the Ultra T3 powered by HarvestMark. It's a new system from a Boise based company that allows shippers to track and trace products through the supply chain while simultaneously allowing them to monitor the cold chain and comply with country of origin labeling requirements. Pak Sense provides the small label that monitors temperatures during shipping. HarvestMark is a code that's also applied with information such as harvest date, field of harvest, processing and packing data. WILLERUP "Basically the T3 solution is solving three food safety issues in one." Pak Sense Business Development Director Theresa Willerup says country of origin labeling is right around the corner. WILLERUP "They shouldn't have to turn their whole operation inside out now to try to comply with COOL. We'll go in, work with their existing work flows. We'll customize the solution to fit it with those work flows and fit in with their current IT infrastructure so that then they can very quickly shift over to becoming COOL compliant." Willerup says Ultra T3 's traceability would be valuable in the case of a food safety question, first in pinpointing the problem and second in not causing consumer confusion and uncertainty about products that might not be affected.
