08/08/08 Cowboy logic and borders

Sometimes new technology isn't always the answer, in fact when it comes to protecting our borders cowboy logic is coming back into play. I'm Jeff Keane and I will fill you in after the break. Since 1924 horses have been used to patrol the Mexican Border and today they are still proving their worth . Here's Susan. Kind of hard to run a renegade down in rugged country on a dirt bike or four wheeler, but give border patrol agents a good horse and they can round up illegals better than Gus and Captain Call. While the agents that patrol our Canadian borders have successfully trained tough little mustangs to handle the frigid northern ranges those that guard Arizona and Texas have found one breed quite adept at it's job. Which is it Jeff ? They need endurance, the ability to cover rough ground and a keen alertness&. So are we talking Tennessee Walker or maybe an Arabian able to handle the desert? Susan there is no question that those mounted Units ride the horse that does it all& the Quarter horse. You right, those agents have rounded up groups of 100 illegals at a time using the herding instincts of a handy Quarter horse. Not only can they contain the drug traffickers in a tight bunch, horses also can spot them or sense them often before their riders. Susan, like I said, you can keep your unmanned spy planes, high tech fences and electronic sensors give me cowboy logic and a good horse and those borders will get under control . I'm Jeff Keane.
