08/06/08 Good Old USA

It has been a struggle lately with rising gas, food and housing prices to not "cut and run". I frequently find myself saying, "Let's move to Fiji!" As the economy creates more and more disgruntled Americans it seems that the American dream has turned into a nightmare. But then I reflect on the World headlines and I'm taken aback by what I read. How many of us would stand for the government "force evicting" us from our homes so that they could refurbish our neighborhood in order to put a good face forward for the Olympics. Or imagine not being able to walk your pet or purchase a dog or cat if you are a man because the government has deemed it as leading to immorality; everybody knows puppies and kitties are chick magnets, right? But sadly, it's not a joke, it is all too real and there are many more of the same World headlines and worse that I don't have room to list. Bottom line, even with all of our problems here in America right now, I feel very blessed and fortunate to be an American. I guess I'll be staying right here. As Dorothy said, "There's no place like home".
