08/05/08 Spam!

It is inevitable that the moment you turn on your computer you will be inundated with Spam. Even if you have filters in place a percentage of those nasty, irritating and highly annoying pieces of junk mail will manage to find their way into your mailbox. Most of them are easily identified as what they are, Spam. But the spammers are definitely getting more creative and intense; for just a millisecond some of the spam headlines succeed in grabbing your attention and your hand hovers over the mouse, but common sense takes hold and you stop yourself just before you click open. Curiosity is a prime human weakness and with headlines like, "Obama bows out of presidential race", "Oil falls below $100 a barrel", and "Britney Spears&.whoops, wrong one, nobody cares. But you get the idea. Spammers count on your being curious. Their intent, to infect computers with a virus. So fight the urge to click on a link in an e-mail, or you just may find yourself under attack by the dark side and crying out, "Help me Obi-wan, you're my only hope!" And at that point probably even Obi-wan won't be able to help.
