07/07/08 George Washington

It seems to be perfect timing that remains of the boyhood home of George Washington, the man most often referred to as the Father of Our Country, were uncovered as our nation celebrated its Independence Day. Archaeologists are excavating the site near Fredricksburg, Virginia. Bits and pieces of what were once expensive, hand painted pottery, wig curlers and parts of tea sets once used by George's mother, Mary Ball Washington were found in the stone lined cellar. Interestingly, a well preserved bowl of an 18th century pipe which shows signs of being well used also bears a Masonic crest; ensuring that the mystery of the Masons and our founding fathers will continue to thrive. And although the team of archaeologists has discovered evidence that a fire damaged a portion of the Washington family home in 1740 they as yet haven't uncovered that ever famous hatchet that chopped down a supposed certain cherry tree so very long ago.
