06/30/08 Code of the West

Things are just different out West, stay tuned until after the break and I will tell you how. I wish folks moving into our area took time to understand the values we live by out West . In fact I think all transplants should receive a copy of James. P. Own's book Cowboy Ethics so they can memorize the Code of The West . You know Susan, this might be a good time to refresh our listeners. I will be happy to Jeff&really, the Code of the West is quite simple and applicable to nearly all facets of life; work, marriage, horses, children& you name it. Here goes& Number One, Live each Day with Courage. That holds as true for my mom recovering from a serious operation or my son training horses. Two, Take Pride in Your Work. Now I distinctly remember the pride one old cowboy had over the miles of straight fence he built. Three, Always Finish what You Start. God advise for work or horse training. 4. Do what Has to Be Done. 5. Be Tough but Fair. 6. When You Make a Promise, Keep It. 7. The famous &Ride for the Brand saying. Then my favorite, number eight, Talk Less and Say More. You want me to repeat that one? No, but take us on home& Okay, number nine in the Code of the West is to, Remember That Some Things Aren't For Sale and we'll rap it up with number 10& Know Where to Draw the Line. Makes you wonder not only how much better life would be West of the Rockies but throughout the world if we all took to heart James P. Owen's Code of the West. I'm Jeff Keane.
