Apple Art. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Schools out and the kids are home. You may be asking yourself what you can do to keep them busy. Well the Washington Apple Education Foundation has an idea for you that is fun, easy to do and might just benefit your kid's future education. WITHERBEE: The Washington Apple Education Foundation Year of the Apple contest is coming up with our deadline August 1st. Many of our entries come from students while they're enrolled in school, kindergarten through 12th grade. They coordinate this through their teachers but it doesn't need to be that way. This could be a great opportunity for parents that are looking for a way to keep their kids busy this summer. That's Jennifer Witherbee, Executive Director for the foundation. Besides being something fun to do, there are prizes. WITHERBEE: Up to a $1000 savings bond is our grand prize but we will also be honoring students in each age division with $250 savings bonds for a total of 14 awards this year. The Foundation is also giving awards to the school or non-profit group that helps the students. WITHERBEE: So for each of the awards that we present to a student artist, we'll also be giving $100 to the school or non-profit organization for their purchase of art supplies and future encouragement of student talent. For more information and an entry application, visit www.waef.org. You can also see some of the past winners entries for inspiration. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
