06/17/08 FSA county committee nominations now open

Washington Ag June 17, 2008 Farmer and rancher candidate nominations for local Farm Service Agency county committees began this week. FSA deputy administrator Glen Kleppy says those nominations started June 15th. Kleppy: "And go until August 1st and then following that is the election." Kleppy says recipients of FSA programs are eligible as candidates for this year's election. Kleppy: "The election of agriculture individuals to be on an FSA county committee is important to all farmers regardless of size. Local committee people provide to us information about what is going on in their county and we can use that in Washington D.C. and in the state offices as we develop programs and carry them out." Interested candidates, or those interested in nominating a candidate, can go to their local FSA office or on online to www.fsa.usda.gov for more information. County committee members serve three-year terms. The Natural Resources Conservation Service has been award the Recycling Partnership award by the Washington State Recycling Association for providing a grant that helped seven northwestern Washington counties recycle more than 132 tons of agricultural plastics the past two years.
