06/16/08 WCA holds mid-year meeting

Washington Ag June 16, 2008 The Washington Cattlemen's Association is holding it's mid-year meeting today and tomorrow in Yakima at the Yakima Center Red Lion. WCA Executive Vice President Jack Field says in addition to conducting association business attendees will hear a presentation on age and source verification. Field: "With Andy Kellum from the Verified Beef Program and John Navlivka from Sterling Solutions. The two gentlemen are going to talk about age and source verification, some different programs that are out there, and talk about producers who have received the elusive premiums for the age source verified cattle." Field says members will also be brought up to date on activities the WCA has been involved in since the legislative session including the Wolf Working Group and an update on the Ruckelshaus Center Critical Area Ordinance process. There will also be a report on work the WCA is doing with eastern Washington landowners regarding the Department of Ecology non-point source water quality enforcement, which has been a recent development. Fields says landowners in Whitman, Garfield and Lincoln County have received letters from Ecology regarding potential water quality infractions. I'm Bob Hoff.
